Our Paint Correction Process

1. Inspect & assess
We look at your paint in proper lighting, check clear coat health, and map out defects.

2. Wash & decontaminate
Foam pre-wash, two-bucket hand wash, wheel and tire cleaning, then iron remover and clay to strip bonded contamination.

3. Test spot
We dial in the safest pad and polish combo and show you a test area so you know what to expect.

4. Machine polishing

Panel-by-panel compounding and polishing where needed, avoiding thin edges and body lines.

5. Panel wipe & inspection
We remove polishing oils and inspect under multiple lights so you see the true finish—not fillers.

6. Protect the finish  “We finish with a durable sealant or upgrade to a Nano Pro ceramic coating.”

When Paint Correction Isn’t the Best Move

Paint correction isn’t right for every vehicle. In some cases, a body shop or repaint is the safer, longer-lasting option.

• Clear coat is peeling, cracking, or missing in large areas

• Deep scratches you can feel with a fingernail

• Rust, rock chips, and body damage that need paintwork, not polishing

• Extremely thin or previously over-polished paint where more cutting would be risky

If we don’t think paint correction is safe or worth the cost, we’ll tell you before we start and point you in the right direction.

If your clear coat is in good shape and you mainly want extra shine and protection, our exterior detailing (wash, clay & seal) may be a better fit than full paint correction.

Paint Correction FAQs

Q: What is paint correction?
A: Paint correction is a professional machine polishing process that safely removes a thin layer of clear coat to reduce or eliminate swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation, and haze.

Q: Is paint correction safe for my car?
A: Yes—when it’s done correctly. At Mack2Steam we inspect your paint, perform a test spot, and avoid aggressive cutting on thin or failing areas.

Q: How long does paint correction take?
A: Most light or single-stage jobs take about 4–8 hours. Multi-stage correction and ceramic coating can take a full day or longer.

Q: Do I need ceramic coating after paint correction?
A: You don’t have to, but it’s recommended. A Nano Pro ceramic coating helps lock in gloss, adds protection, and makes washing easier with fewer new swirls.
